Make your mind up today, don't wait for a situation that will make you doubt your own decision. There is a huge difference with a direct experience compared to an indirect. You can learn all you want about something or someone, but until you have a direct experience in what you've learned or who you've learned about, the relationship between your attitude and behavior is less than affective. Learning about or experiencing, what's your resolve? Here is a process to think on. Increase knowledge of, evaluate right response, display confidence in ability, engage with committed behavior, and accept responsibility. Your commitment to responsibility is generated by what you value most, and your attitude which is sustained through your belief system. I like to call this, behavior organized by belief. Our value system is influenced heavily by family, friends, co-workers, and how we believe. How much we know someone will determine our attitude towards and belief in them when something happens, whether good or bad. Old habits that have no purpose form a strong barrier that prevents a more productive life. Resolve to unpack some old habits that are holding you down. Experiencing life is way more affective than being full of knowledge about life.

Why would anyone not want to be great at everything they do? Has our mindset become so fixed that being great is limited to a few areas of life? Whatever you have packed in your mind that's tricked you into believing such nonsense, it's time to unpack it and smash it to pieces. One key thought before we look at several powerful truths. Being great isn't defined or measured by what others do or accomplish, it's not about comparing one to another, it is about being your best. How do you pursue your best? You grasp each opportunity that comes your way, especially the ones that stretch you, that challenge you to face your fears and get you out of your comfort zone. My oldest son Colby had the opportunity to speak at the 5th grade D.A.R.E. program graduation at Williams Township Elementary this past week. I was blessed and challenged by his words to make great decisions over good decisions. Colby used each letter in the word GREAT to convey his points. G for goals, a must have if you are to find the direction in the way you desire to go and have the ability to measure and evaluate the progress made along the way. R for responsibility, there is no blame game, your thoughts, emotions, attitude, and success is your responsibility, take ownership now. E for engage, you make no progress sitting around feeling sorry for yourself, you must keep moving and learning. Make the decision now to be courageous and energetic, stay your course and enjoy the process to greatness. A for aspire, strive for excellence not perfection. Every day is an opportunity to become greater than the day before, keep your passion alive for your dreams. T for total commitment, you have to be 100% present in your decision. No day dreaming, no second guessing. Search for people going the same direction you're going, those who desire great over good, and even when you can't see it physically, press on with great faith.
It's a joy when you gain understanding on real life, even more when those you love grasp it for themselves. Always speak and seek the truth, never make assumptions, always ask questions and learn. Always give your all, stay consistent and determined and greatness will find you, settle for nothing less. |
